Rock the Cathedral Gloucester on FRIDAY 16th March 2012

As I told you last term, people from other Gloucester diocese loved our idea of Rock the Cathedral so much that they’ve decided to do one too.

After a change of date (due to BBC filming) the event will now be on FRIDAY 16th March

Members of Worcester CandY Youth and Young Adults Councils will be helping out on the night.

Some of our schools will be running coaches down to Gloucester and there’ll be pizza on sale at the cathedral as well as bands, circus skills, an acoustic café, a gallery area of all kinds of activities, a homeless street display and much more!

Watch out for fliers about: Rock the Cathedral Gloucester on FRIDAY 16th March 2012.

Rock the Cathedral ON TOUR!

Another thing you and your young people could do is get ready for Rock the Cathedral in 2012 by getting involved in a sleep out. People from other dioceses loved our idea of Rock the Cathedral so much that they’ve decided to do one too. I’ve been talking with other Youth Officers from Gloucester and Hereford (Steve and Esther) and Gloucester are putting on Rock the Cathedral in early 2012 (Date TBC) in Gloucester Cathedral. The idea will be to have a Rock the Cathedral in Hereford after that and then back in Worcester! Gloucester are tying this in with a challenge to spend the night sleeping out during the Autumn term to raise money and awareness for a local homeless charity. So how about getting out some cardboard boxes and raising some money for St Paul’s Hostel or St Basil’s  or another local homeless charity. I’ll be putting some further guidelines about this up on the website. If you make a video or take some photos of your sponsored event they might make it onto the big screen on the night. Some of our schools will be running coaches down to Gloucester and there’ll be a van outside the cathedral selling food. Inside the cathedral there’ll be bands, circus skills, an acoustic café, a gallery area of all kinds of activities, a homeless street display and much more! Watch out for fliers about Rock the Cathedral Gloucester  2012.

Rock the Cathedral Video Competition

For Rock the Cathedral this year we’re going to be hearing from the voices of young people at the event via the big screen. We’re offering youth groups and youth bands from across the diocese the chance to feature in the on stage entertainment by producing a film of no more than 5 minutes. We’ll show the best films on the night and the prize for the top film of the night is a FLIP VIDEO CAMERA! I don’t mind what digital format the film comes in but we want to hear from YOU! Entries by Thursday 23rd September please!!

Rock the Cathedral

On Saturday 6th September we had over 350 people rocking the cathedral to the music of Formal Affair, The Fans of Faye, Dan Haynes, The Relentless Craving and Finchley. When they weren’t listening to the awesome music, young people were able to chill out at Breathe in the Chapter house, get active in the juggle zone, re-energise at the café or find some space at the prayer zone. Adults who came along also had the benefit of the Adult crèche complete with mini golf and newspapers. In between the bands we also had some compelling drama from the young people of Matchborough and some wise words from both Jon Pedley, vice-chair of the youth council, and Bishop John.

There’s now a commemorative video of photos taken on the night. If your group were there and want to remember one fabulous night in September or if they weren’t and they want to know what they missed, get in touch with me and I can send you a copy in exchange for a small donation of £3 to the funds for Rock the Cathedral Again 2010.

If you have or know a kicking Christian band locally and would like to be considered for Rock the Cathedral Again 2010, get in touch with the youth council via their revamped
website at where you can see their review of the event.

Breathe

In July we took delivery of the diocese’s own copy of Breathe. This is a resource developed by dare2engage to help 16-19 year olds explore their spirituality. Jenny Baker, one of its creators brought Breathe to the diocese earlier in the year and the diocese has invested in its own set. We launched Breathe at the Diocesan Assembly where it was available as one of the workshops and it will be available to experience at both Rock the Cathedral and Inspire in September.
