Grenbelt Youth

I just got this message through from the youth co-ordinator at Greenbelt.

If you're taking a youth group this year, why not get involved with this innovative project to get the young people excited in preparation for the trip

We are looking for groups of crafty people to help us make the Greenbelt 2013 festival site even more vibrant. Could your group help us by making some big flags? These will be 5m, eye catching flags. We hope this will be a great way for your young people to get involved and feel ownership over a part of the festival. We have also teamed up with vInspired to be able to offer nationally recognised certificates to our volunteers. 

If your groups are able to get involved (and your young people are aged 14-25) then they could count the hours given in this task towards their award. See our website for more information:

Some additional information: Greenbelt 2013 is our 40th festival and will take place 23 - 26 August at Cheltenham Racecourse. If you haven't bought your tickets yet you can still make a saving on the August price; Don't forget that if you buy ten tickets you will get an eleventh ticket free.

Young People going to Greenbelt Survey

The Children's Society would like children and young people between 8-18 who are going to Greenbelt to fill in a short on-line survey about their lives; what makes them happy, what they struggle with. The results of the survey will be discussed at a Good Childhood Conversation at Greenbelt itself.

If you are taking a group of young people, or know young people who are going please ask them to fill in the survey, it will only take 15 minutes or so and would help The Children's Society enormously.

Recent Events and News

Worcester Spirit Mark
On 14th May, the Department for Children, Youth and Education launched an award scheme for parish’s work with children. Four parishes were awarded their bronze Level certificates as part of a pilot scheme. I will be visiting Deanery Synods over the next eighteen months to talk about the scheme and help churches engage with it. The Bronze Award represents a set of minimum standards in children's and youth work. We want parishes to celebrate their good practice with children and young people and identify ways in which they could improve:

• how they reach out to children and young people


• the ways they are welcomed


• how they are included within worship


• their place in day to day activities of the church.

For parishes which are going further in this area the diocese will be awarding Silver and Gold awards . If you have any questions regarding the scheme or need any assistance at all in developing your youth and children's work, please do not hesitate to contact me.


Youth Mass goes Mass Media
A group of young people from Kidderminster have been running their own Youth Mass at St Barnabas Kidderminster for some time now and they have just been given a grant by the Greenbelt Trust and invited to lead a service at the Greenbelt festival this year. If you are going to Greenbelt this year, please go along and support them.
